Waterford Airport is located just outside Waterford City and it serves the south-east of Ireland. It is near Tramore Bay, about 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Waterford city centre. The airport has been open to passengers since December 1981 when the terminal was just a temporary building. The runway was 1,200-metres long, 29-metres wide, and was used only by single and twin-engine light aircraft. In 1992, a new and modern terminal building was constructed, and the runway was extended to 1,433 metres and increased to 30 metres wide.
Aer Arann is the only scheduled airline curently using the airport. They operate a daily service to Birmingham, London Luton and Manchester. Waterford Aero Club is also based at the airport.
