Faro International Airport is located at south Portugal, 2Km west of Faro city, the capital of Algarve province.
The airport first movement was in July 11th 1965, since then it has been constantly growing up in terms of passenger demand and aircraft movements. In 2004 Faro airport has processed 4.643.626 passengers, 32.580 aircraft movements and 1.540ton. of cargo. The kind of traffic demanding Faro airport is originated at central and north Europe countries, tourists looking to spend holidays at warm and sunny south Portugal (Algarve). Lately, the low-cost carriers are also a very strong presence here, representing almost half of Faro airport traffic.
Nowadays Faro airport main objectives are to be the gateway of south Portugal (including the touristic province of Algarve), some regions in Spain and to be a top quality reference airport in the south of the Iberic Peninsula.
This airport has a 10-28 runway with plenty of good spotting positions, mostly south of the runway, across a small sand road parallel with it. There are no security / safety problems, the airport is located at a natural park (Ria Formosa) so the vicinity is very tranquil, aviation photography is allowed.
To keep in mind: RESPECT THE AIRPORT PERIMETER FENCE AND DO NOT LEAVE GARBAGE AROUND FARO AIRPORT, REMEMBER IT'S A NATURAL PARK.
