Official Spotting Locations
Planeview Park
The best location to spot is on the approach to runway 4. There is a public park approximately 100 yards to the beginning of this runway. The aircraft fly in at about 35 feet above the park and 25 feet above the airport access road. This is a great place if not one of the best places in all of New York city to spot and photograph aircraft. You are so close that you can see the passengers faces through the windows. Spotting here is only good on approaches. Its location is on the corner of 23rd Avenue and 86th. The park is just opposite the old College of Aeronautics, now called Vaughn College. Here you will get an unubstructed view of all incoming aircraft. Everything from Saab 340s to Boeing 767-300s. No more L-1011s, or DC-10s here.
One note, do not spot or photograph anywhere on this or any of the Port Authority airports in New York City or New Jersey (KJFK, KLGA, KEWR). You can spot and photograph at and around Tetterboro, security there is laxed.

Locations to Avoid
Avoid spotting from inside the perimiter fence of the airport property at LGA when runway 4 is in use as loitering is not permitted by PANYNJ Police and is strictly enforced.
