Official Spotting Locations
Observation platforms
Dusseldorf has two large observation platform.
The first platform can be found at the terminal. It offers view over the terminal area and planes taxiing. When planes come in from the west you can see the planes line up on the nearby runway, and land at the far runway. A nice aviation store can be found just outside the platform.

The second platform can be found at the long distance train station (not to be mistaken with the local train station in the terminal!). Here you are just as close by to the planes, but there is no clutter at all. Therefor this place is preferable. When planes come in from the east they land on the far away runway, and take-off from the nearby runway. Lining up is very close by as well.
