Located in the former Royal Docks only 6 miles from central London, this airport handles turboprop and jet aircraft up to Airbus 318 size on scheduled routes to destinations popular with business travellers. In recent years there has been an increase in movements by biz jets. Busiest periods are weekday mornings and evenings and Sunday evenings, and the airport is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings.
Official Spotting Locations
Outside Terminal Building
Outside the terminal building there are large parking areas beyond the bus stops and taxi rank. A ten minute walk allows a view of the eastern half of the runway and taxiway Delta.

Other Spotting Locations
North side of Royal Albert Dock
From the north side of Royal Albert Dock there is an unobstructed over water view of the entire airport. This is a public area with some offices, restaurants and a canoeing club. To reach this spot take the DLR to Royal Albert station. Photographers may prefer to alight at Cyprus and walk through the University campus to the north of the eastern end of runway 09/27.
Jet Centre
Walking anti-clockwise from Royal Albert dock to the terminal building you will pass the Jet Centre. A double row of fences makes photography difficult but logging is possible after dusk due to a high level of apron lighting.
Eastern end of Car Park
From the eastern end of the car park there are views over King George V dock of the runway 27 holding point and turning loop.
